ULK Signs Strategic MoU with ASA Rwanda to Boost Student Employability and Financial Inclusion

Kigali Independent University (ULK) has entered into a significant partnership with the Association for Social Advancement (ASA) International Rwanda, a licensed microfinance institution, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which took place on 9th October 2025 at ULK’s main campus in Kigali, Gisozi. This marks a major step toward enhancing student career readiness and promoting financial inclusion across Rwanda. The MoU, officially signed, sets the stage for a collaborative relationship between academia and industry, focusing on providing ULK’s top performing students with internship opportunities, employment pathways, and practical exposure to the microfinance sector.

The partnership reflects a shared vision of bridging the gap between theoretical education and real world practice. ASA Rwanda, a subsidiary of the globally operating ASA International Group Plc, brings a wealth of experience in delivering sustainable microfinance services, particularly to underserved and low-income communities. Through this collaboration, students from fields such as Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics will gain hands-on experience through structured internships that align with their academic backgrounds. Graduates who demonstrate exceptional performance may be considered for full-time employment, based on ASA Rwanda’s recruitment needs and internal criteria.

Beyond internships and employment, the MoU opens doors to broader collaboration in areas such as joint research, financial literacy outreach, gender empowerment, and youth employment initiatives. A strong emphasis is placed on empowering young women, with tailored programs designed to equip them with the knowledge, mentorship, and financial tools needed to actively participate in Rwanda’s economic growth.

The agreement is rooted in mutual commitment to excellence, professionalism, and social impact. By working together, ULK and ASA Rwanda are creating a transformative model of education-to-employment, where students don’t just graduate with degrees, but with the confidence, experience, and networks they need to thrive. The partnership stands as a testament to what is possible when higher education institutions and socially driven enterprises unite with a common goal to build a more inclusive, skilled, and economically empowered Rwanda.
